The following thirteen geocachers/teams/pooches/kids attended ….

* Cheesy Pigs and their delightful little Piglet.
* The Princess of Princesses, Snuva (and of course her entourage! ).
* Swampy .. (Are you sure you don’t wish to pitch your tent on the prickles?? ;) )
* Michael And One Of His Mob … (Glad you two were able to stay the night! )
* The Energiser Mob .. (with gorgeous Ellie in tow!) And also, the indominatable …
* Caching Dynamo!! :)
* Aloysius .. (along with his and Lisa’s two beautiful golden girls, Digger and Charlie)
* Robtas and Jantas .. (keeping everyone amused as always!) .. ;)
* Forthferalz & Co. .. (thanks for providing the yummy birthday cake!)
* Team Tiges … (omg .. did Bella’s fleas really come from the Captain?? ;) )
* DDT’s … (thankyou for all the geocaching goodies, along with your excellent company!)
* Fairly Magic .. (along with Harry and Netballer and TTE, FM are absolutely fairly magical!!)
* Mr Tack … (and his precious delightful little tacker grandson).

* And of course ‘We/Us/Mr & Mrs Waterwells …. happened to be there too!

Unfortunately Mr Waterwells wasn’t there for very long. Due to his work commitments and his Mum’s illness, he tended to drift in and out …. but between us, we still had the absolute best time, catching up with ‘the old’ .. and meeting up with ‘the new’!

Thankyou to everyone for your company, your fun, your laughter, your hilarious sharing of geo-stories, your kindness, your sharing of your pooches and your geo-kids …

But most of all …. thankyou for your genuine friendship. :)

Bella-baby! … Update!

Posted in Zoe and Bella by Waterwells Saturday January 14, 2006 at about 4:41 pm

An update on Bella’s op! She had her stitches removed yesterday.

She was a naughty little girl and had chewed the ends right off a couple of her stitches, which made it a little more difficult for Dr. Sue to remove them. Not to worry! Dr. Sue managed admirably! … :)

Bella is now completely well again and all her ‘trauma’ signs have vanished! (Much to Zoe’s and our delight!!!) …

She has had her bath, has been Perfumed and Prettied and is once again, Perfectly Perfect! .. :)

Bella-baby!

Posted in Zoe and Bella by Waterwells Sunday January 8, 2006 at about 4:14 pm

Our little Bella is officially now an ‘IT’!!

Not without some trauma though! .. :(

When Zoe was de-sexed, she breezed through the whole process. The following day after her op, she was up and running …. and if not for having to make an appointment to have her stitches removed, we all could have forgotten about it, Zoe included.

Not so with our Bella-baby!

She had her operation on Tuesday and everything went really well. I picked her up from Dr Sue’s Clinic around 3.30pm and she was fine! She was understandably very sleepy, but she was fine! However, the next day brought on a monster! Bella didn’t want anything to do with us! She totally ignored Zoe and continually hid from everything and all of us! Under cushions, under couches, under chests of drawers - you name it - if she could hide under it (and preferably as far out of reach as possible), that’s what she did.

The following day (Thursday) brought much the same! Even though Bella was eating a little and drinking a little, we were still very concerned. We couldn’t work out if she was in pain or if she was traumatised, or a bit of both.

Dr Sue to the rescue! I phoned Sue (Bastvet) and she called in on her way home from the Clinic to check Bella over (bringing some pain relief for Bella, if it was needed). Bella apparently wasn’t in pain; she was simply stressed over the whole major thingy! Apparently one in one hundred dogs will show signs of ‘trauma’ after their de-sexing operation and Bella just happens to be ‘one in the one hundred’!

Dr Sue said it could take up to a fortnight for Bella to come right, but she is already showing signs of improvement. Today, she’ll play for an hour or so, as if there’s nothing wrong …. and then she suddenly remembers that she’s “supposed” to be traumatised and she’ll take on her “Poor Me” look, and goes and hides again! ;)

Yeah, right! We can play the game! :)

* Thankyou Bastvet, for caring for and caring about Bella …. and also for giving us peace of mind!!

It’s All Happening!

On Monday 16th January, I start my new position with ARAFMI (Association for Relatives and Friends of the Mentally Ill). It’s a six month State funded position - ARAFMI being a state funded, non government organisation.

There will be much to do within the next six months. My main goals are to raise public awareness of ARAFMI in the North and also to set up and establish a much needed ARAFMI Branch somewhere along the North West Coast. At this stage, it will most likely be Burnie.

In between the 30+ hours per week that I’ll be working for ARAFMI, I will still need to fit in time for my GP accreditation survey work. Yikes!!

On a different note, our son Kane is getting married to his long time girlfriend of 13 years! February 11th is the big day and it will be the whole formal ‘bells and whistles’ thingy’ - Wedding at St. Johns Church, Launceston and reception afterwards at Rosevears Estate. (Which reminds me — I must remind Mr Waterwells to buy a tie!) .. :)

Cachemas

Posted in Geocaching by Waterwells Monday December 19, 2005 at about 5:51 pm

WOW!! What else can we say? Apart from maybe … ‘DOUBLE WOW’??

We had the absolute bestest time! And funnily enough, the pouring rain actually added to the enjoyment! There’s nothing like some inclement weather forcing a heap of geo-cachers into a teeny, tiny space ? …. Thankyou CraigRat, for opening up the heavens!!! .. :)

For us, it was great to meet up again with Mr and Mrs Tack and little Master Grand-Tacker, Hingrock and Shauna, Orac and family, Malbena … and of course ‘the ever-obedient slaves’ of the illustrious Princess Snuva. Especially special, was the chance to meet many newer Southern geo-cachers and being able to put faces to names! (Who would have thought that el golco was Caxixi’s Mum? … Who would have thought that Dippy knew that Northern geo-cachers love choccies? … Who would have thought that Swampy was an inquisitive ‘Swampy Rat’? … Who would have thought that ‘Fairly Magic’ is absolutely and without doubt, ‘fairly magic’?? … Who would have thought that the Cheesy Pigs team consists of ‘Mr Quiet Event Person’, ‘Mrs Get-That-Photo-At All-Costs Person’ and their delightful little piglet) …. ??

Thankyou again CraigRat … it was an eye-opener into how far geo-caching has evolved in such a short time here in Tassie. It was also a huge buzz …. thinking about all the other Geo-caching Events that were happening nationally, at the very exact same time.

We sincerely hope they all had as good a time as we did. :)

Chasing caches following Cachemas Event!

Posted in Geocaching by Waterwells Monday December 19, 2005 at about 1:32 pm

Well, our plan was to hunt out some caches on the way to Hobart on the way to ‘The Special Event’. We looked on this Event as ’special’, because geo-cachers all over Australia, would be attending Events in their home states at the very exact same time!

Unfortunately the weather was against us. We were forced to by-pass our previously planned ‘Four Corners’, ‘Jordan’ and ‘Little Quoin’ due to torrential rain, hail and ‘Subaru aqua-planing!’. Even though we left Launceston at a respectable time, we still managed to arrive late for ‘The Event’. (After all this time, we thought we could now call ourselves seasoned geo-cachers?? .. Not so!! Even armed with GPS co-ords and a map, it still took us over half an hour to find the area where we were mean’t to be!! .. Aargh! )

The next day (Sunday) heralded some warm Hobart sunshine and even though we slept in and had a late brekkie, we were on the road soon after 10.00am. Our first find was one in the Cheesy Pigs series, ‘Summer’ . We set off along the path/boardwalk to find this one, with Mr Waterwells very quickly issuing dire warnings to Mrs Waterwells .. “Don’t you dare stop and talk with anyone walking their dog!” … Oh dear, this left me with absolutely no-one to stop and chat with! (Ummm, does this say that Mr Waterwells knows me too well??). But guess what! After finding the cache, signing the log and admiring the magnificent view, guess which one of ‘the Waterwells half’ stopped to chat with a dog owner on the way back to our car?? T’wasn’t me! Need I say more?? .. :)

From here, our next stop was ‘Not An Ocean Cliff Cache’! After a couple of wrong turnings off the main road, we eventually found the way in to yet another ‘oh so peaceful’ area of Hobart. Walkers and cyclists abounded, and yet quite amazingly, they all added to the peaceful, laid-back atmosphere of this area.

From here we headed to ‘Wild Party Animals #1′. The terrain rating for this cache is two stars. It’s a short, very steep up-hill climb to get to GZ and the views on the way are absolutely superb.

Next stop was ‘Save My Bacon’! Hahaha! A huge belly laugh!! What else can we say? .. :)

The Domain was our next stop with an easy pickup of ‘Domain Secrets’. My sis-in-law from Sydney and moi had trudged and thoroughly enjoyed finding all the waypoints back in May of this year, only to eventually find that the actual cache had been muggled by wildlife. (Geocaching hint! Always keep all co-ords!! haha)

We really enjoyed ‘Pete’s Gardens and Gadgets’. The last time we took a wander through The Gardens was a long, long time ago and amazingly, the peacefulness of this area has not changed one iota! It’s good to see now the extent of the upgrading of these gardens in order to cater for those with disabilities. (Says she who has worked within the medical industry for many years!)

‘River Crossing’ was next on our agenda. ‘Inside terrain info’ allowed us to park very close to GZ and we soon had the prize in our hot little hands. A very tricky and very daring hide!

Across the bridge to The Eastern Shore and ‘Ministry of Culture’, the next cache on our agenda. Easily found, when we realised that we’d actually parked almost right next to the cache!! .. :)

Now back to our hotel, with intentions of picking up ‘Railway Roundabout’ and ‘Cheesy Pigs - Spring’ on the way! Aaaaarh!! Not so!! We hunted high and low for ‘Spring’, and even after following the geo-trails, we still could not find it!

It was the same with ‘Railway Roundabout’. After resorting to the clue, we still couldn’t find it! (Sheeeez, are we losers or what! …. everyone else seems to have found it?? … :) )

After some inside info at dinner from fellow geo-cachers, we set out again the next morning with the knowledge that we’d fairly surely have these two caches ‘in the bag’ very quickly! Aaaaargh!! .. Not so again!! After a few minutes of searching, we still couldn’t find ‘Railway Roundabout’ and ‘Spring’ turned out to be ‘Muggle Central’. Not a hope, not a chance!!

Onwards to ‘Ancanthe’, an area that we’d passed many times before, when our daughter was living in Lenah Valley. We’d often wondered about ‘the building and it’s history’ and we thank you Snuva, for actually ‘forcing’ us to stop, to smell the roses and to absorb the history! :)

Next stop? .. ‘Ancient Artefacts’ ..
Thankyou Caxixi for leading us to here! Before geo-caching, we had no idea this ‘area’ in Tassie even existed! (Is it well advertised?? … Is it??? ). We’re right into ‘ancient coins’, ‘pharoahs’ coffins’ ….. and everything/anything that smacks of ancient artefacts!
In fact we spent so much time at your first waypoint (to the point of almost forgetting that we were geo-cachers, supposedly collecting information), that we lost all track of time!

No time to find the final resting place of ‘Ancient Artefacts’, ‘Schools Out’ or ‘J.P.F’, so onwards up the Midlands Hwy for us! A quick stop at ‘Little Quoin’ and then a slight detour to ‘Jordan’. This cache area is well worth checking out, not so much for the actual cache/contents, but for the historical value of the surrounding area.

Onwards to ‘Four Corners’! It incorporates the Salvation Corner, The Damnation Corner, The Recreation Corner and The Temptation Corner … and it’s an absolute history delight!

From here, homeward bound and totally stuffed! ….

Hmmmm, we were instantly fully revived by Zoe and Bella, who were waiting at home to greet us! :)

It’s been a while!

Posted in Geocaching by Waterwells Friday December 2, 2005 at about 2:37 am

It has been quite some time since we have had a full free day that has actually co-incided, that is, time when we could go geo-hunting together for the day! It was last weekend.

We thought about attempting to catch that damned elusive cache, the one that’s been chased around the Hobart area for the past couple of months. The one that we tried to hunt down when it first hit Northern soil .. (Thankyou Aloysius! ). The same one that the ‘Ferals from the Forth’ found, and subsequently hid along the North West Coast.

We decided instead to head North East, a trip we’d been planning for some time. Our first stop was our own ‘Bonnie’s Lament’ cache, which according to Tassie Devils, needed some TLC. (Thanks Tassie Devils, for letting us know via your log!). We dried out the container, replaced the log book and replaced all the swaps with lots of new goodies! We met an interesting lady with five ‘very huge’ dogs within a stone throw of the cache. We stopped to chat, and it appears that she takes her dogs for a walk along ‘that very same path’ every morning. Apparently she stops for a rest very close to where the cache is hidden, because that’s where her ‘huge’ .. (and as we discovered, ‘very aged, very friendly'’) … pooches like to swim!

Little does she know that there is geo-caching treasure, hidden close by!

We then headed to a friends home for a cuppa. Incidentally, their balcony looks out over ‘Bonnie’s Lament’, across the bay. It felt quite strange, sitting out on their balcony and looking across the bay to where we’d been only twenty minutes earlier chatting with our new ‘pooch’ friend, while surrepticiously trying to replace swaps and a log book!

After leaving the good company and the Anzac biscuits, we headed to ‘What’s That Smell?’ Very tricky! (Typical of Michaels Mob). We almost gave up on it .. but eventually persistence won out!

And then it was off to ‘Didn’t We Have A Lovely Time’. And did we have a lovely time?? .. No, not really!! The self appointed cache guard dog residing next door ensured that our visit to the cache was fraught with geo-cringe! But then again, there was a bonus! His/her continual barking ensured that any joe-blakes that may have been waiting to pounce on us, all skiddadled big time!

‘Just Missed It’ .. was next on our agenda. Wow!! Double wow!! .. We can’t for the life of us think why we’ve left it so long to seek this one out! It’s a magnificent walk back in time! It’s another well thought out cache from MichaelsMob, and one that is placed in an area that we would never have thought about wandering off the road to explore!

‘Merth and Merriment’ was our next stop. An idyllic peaceful walk after an interesting history lesson soon had the prize in our hot little hands. But not before we had taken our fill of the water rushing through the base of the valley. We also learn’t that CraigRat isn’t ‘a spelling drop-out’ after all! After finding the cache, we ‘merthed’ and ‘merried’ our way back out along the path to the carpark with much merth and merriment!

Onwards to ‘Rocky Park’. By this time our stomachs were rumbling and hunger was setting in! (”Yessss! We see a take-away shop! Bonus! It’s less than 250 metres from our destination!” ) …. We stopped and placed our order of chicken and chips .. (’the greasies’ of course!!). We were told it would take fifteen to twenty minutes to cook. Hmmm, what to do in the meantime? Go and search for ‘Rocky Park’ while our ‘greasies’ were cooking?? Yesss!!

It only took a few minutes to find the cache .. but ‘we got sprung!’ and then spent a very enjoyable time catching up with Mr and Mrs Tack while swapping caching exploits.

We evenutally parted company with, “See you in Hobart next weekend!” .. and it was back to the take-away shop to pick up our ‘pre-ordered greasies’! From there, we headed towards ‘The East Man, The East’. We found a comfy seat overlooking the water to eat our lunch, turned the GPS back on and … “Hey, GPS is saying that the cache is 17 metres THAT way!”. We looked in THAT direction and lo and behold, this time we had ’sprung/sprang’ Mr Tack!! After another enjoyable chat, Mr Tack went on his way to look for ‘Mermaid’s Lookout’ while we continued eating ‘out greasies’, with a promise that we would soon follow!

Unfortunately, it didn’t happen! After Mr Tack’s departure, we met up with some ex work colleagues enjoying a couple of hours on the beach and we spent an hour or so with them, catching up on all the latest work/family news and gossip.

Eventually, we headed off to ‘Mermaid’s Lookout’, guessing that Mr Tack would have been long gone!

We found the first waypoint and then headed off for a leisurely and thoroughly enjoyable walk along the beach. Approx 50 metres from GZ, we came across two very young ‘beings’, who were more engrossed with one another, than any activity that we might be participating in! After less than a minute of searching, geo-cringe set in big-time!! …. As in … “Hmmmm, maybe they are watching us in between their lustful antics???”

Mission was abandoned …. but we’ll be back!

It was then time to head back home! “Hmmm .. isn’t there a cache somewhere on ‘The Sidling’?” Luckily we nabbed it within seconds of the heavens opening, which turned out to be a five minute fury of hail and rain!!! As a result we didn’t get to experience the view this time but usually it’s a favourite ‘pit stop’ for us when we’re along this way and the view from here never ceases to amaze us!

Controversial Stuff?

Posted in Geocaching by Waterwells Monday November 21, 2005 at about 3:54 pm

Our Cache Preferences

Anywhere with a great view!
Difficult Rating? - Bring it on!
Terrain Rating? - ‘Asthma’, unfortunately dictates that we only seek caches that have a ‘Terrain Rating’ of 3 or below!

Our Cache Wishes

At least two new quality caches to be placed by us before the New Year rolls in!
(*Note .. terrain rating will be less than 3!! .. *smile*)

Our Cache Appreciation

To everyone who has listed caches on GC.com and/or GCA. Whichever site you have chosen to list your cache, and for whatever reason/s, we thank you. We log into both sites equally and regularly.

Our Cache Dislikes

* Any cache that is shown by the logs of previous finders to be ‘neglected’! (ie: .. ” not appropriately maintained” by the cache hider!)

* Caches that are placed in areas that also contain rubbish/bongs/syringes.

Double jointed ..

Posted in Zoe and Bella by Waterwells Monday November 21, 2005 at about 3:54 pm

Both Zoe and Bella are double-jointed!!

I’m not sure if ‘all’ dogs display these tendencies?? Or maybe only those that come from the “Terrier Family”????

(I’m a noobie to the intricacies of a dog’s life! Hahaha)

Both Zoe and Bella, when excited and happy … (which is most of the time!!) … lay flat on the floor, and their back legs seem to naturally fall ‘perpendicularly’ straight out behind them! Is this natural?

I’ve never seen it before, but then again … it could be because I’ve never really taken any notice of the intricacies of dogs, contortion wise … prior to Zoe and Bella??

Zoe and Bella

Posted in Zoe and Bella by Waterwells Monday November 21, 2005 at about 3:54 pm

Zoe was born April, 2004. When she arrived in our household eight weeks later, she was still just a tiny little scrap of black and tan floppiness! And she melted our hearts!!

Zoe is now a muscly, alert, silver haired, extremely loving eighteen month old, who thinks she is a human being!! And yes, she has attitude plus!! But we wouldn’t have it any other way!! She loves her liver treats, she loves chasing her ball, she loves geocaching …. and she loves us!!

And she also loves Bella!

Bella was born 9th August, 2005. She was a little floppy scrap of white cotton wool when she joined us at 7 weeks old. And very quickly, her passion in life became Zoe!

Bella and Zoe are ‘joined at the hip’ .. they race and play and tumble together all the time! When they wear themselves out, they even curl up and asleep together!
