Our little Bella is officially now an ‘IT’!!
Not without some trauma though! ..
When Zoe was de-sexed, she breezed through the whole process. The following day after her op, she was up and running …. and if not for having to make an appointment to have her stitches removed, we all could have forgotten about it, Zoe included.
Not so with our Bella-baby!
She had her operation on Tuesday and everything went really well. I picked her up from Dr Sue’s Clinic around 3.30pm and she was fine! She was understandably very sleepy, but she was fine! However, the next day brought on a monster! Bella didn’t want anything to do with us! She totally ignored Zoe and continually hid from everything and all of us! Under cushions, under couches, under chests of drawers – you name it – if she could hide under it (and preferably as far out of reach as possible), that’s what she did.
The following day (Thursday) brought much the same! Even though Bella was eating a little and drinking a little, we were still very concerned. We couldn’t work out if she was in pain or if she was traumatised, or a bit of both.
Dr Sue to the rescue! I phoned Sue (Bastvet) and she called in on her way home from the Clinic to check Bella over (bringing some pain relief for Bella, if it was needed). Bella apparently wasn’t in pain; she was simply stressed over the whole major thingy! Apparently one in one hundred dogs will show signs of ‘trauma’ after their de-sexing operation and Bella just happens to be ‘one in the one hundred’!
Dr Sue said it could take up to a fortnight for Bella to come right, but she is already showing signs of improvement. Today, she’ll play for an hour or so, as if there’s nothing wrong …. and then she suddenly remembers that she’s “supposed” to be traumatised and she’ll take on her “Poor Me” look, and goes and hides again!
Yeah, right! We can play the game!
* Thankyou Bastvet, for caring for and caring about Bella …. and also for giving us peace of mind!!
